Favorite Drupal 7 Modules

The following is a list of some of the best Drupal 7 modules that we use on most of our sites. Much of this list was initially drawn from this article. Please leave a comment below if you want to make any suggestions for this page, or we left something.

Administration Interface

  • Administration menu - Turns the administrator toolbar into a dop-down menu making things much easier to access
  • Module Filter - Groups modules into side tabs and lets you easily search your installed modules

Structure

  • References - Lets you easily create references between content types
  • Node Reference URL -  Adds an additional widget to the Node Reference field that prepopulates a reference by the URL.
  • EVA: Entity Views Attachment - Views display plugin that allows the output of a View to be attached to the content of any Drupal entity

Layout

  • Display Suite -  Display Suite allows you to take full control over how your content is displayed using a drag and drop interface. 

Navigation

  • Custom Breadcrumbs - Allows administrators to set up parametrized breadcrumb trails for any node type.
  • Pathauto -  Automatically generates URL/path aliases for various kinds of content (nodes, taxonomy terms, users) without requiring the user to manually specify the path alias.
  • Global Redirect - Searches for an alias of the current URL and 301 redirects if found. Stops duplicate content arising when path module is enabled.
  • Redirect -  Allows users to redirect from old URLs to new URLs. Useful for redirecting after changing a popular alias.

Development

  • Devel -  Various blocks, pages, and functions for developers.
  • Google Analytics - Adds the Google Analytics web statistics tracking system to your website.
  • Token - Tokens are small bits of text that can be placed into larger documents via simple placeholders

Users and Community

  • Advanced Forum - Builds on and enhances Drupal's core forum module
  • Gravatar - Use gravatars on your site
  • Mollom -  By monitoring content activity on all sites in the Mollom network, Mollom is in a unique position to determine if a post is potentially spam
  • reCAPTCHA - Uses the reCAPTCHA web service to improve the CAPTCHA system and protect email addresses.
