Simply Doesn't Work

Hi,

I've been through the known issues and the bugs forum to see if there's any obvious reason but with version 1.11.0.6 (or 5 for that matter) I just cannot make it work at all. I've removed all of my non-critical extensions, installed and uninstalled but it just doesnt work. I'm running Firefox 3.0.1 on XP with the following extensions: Google Notebook, Googlepedia, Hyperwords and Tempomail. Also, I do have several send as email accounts set up correctly so I don't think that's a problem.

Any clues much appreciated, I'm just going to try the extensions.cache thing to see if it's an installation problem.

HI again,

Just tried the removing extensions.cache, etc... files trick (uninstall bc add-on, restart, delete files, restart, install bc add-on, restart) but to no avail. I'm still without html signatures.

Chris, sorry you're having trouble with this. Can you give me the following information to help me troubleshoot with you?

  • What locale is your Firefox set to? (e.g. en-US, pt-BR, etc.)
  • What language is your Gmail set to?
  • Are you on Google Apps for a custom domain?

If I have time, I may also install the plugins you mentioned above to see if any conflict. Could you provide me with a link to each of them?

I'm having the exact same issue.

I was beginning to think I was the only one!

I have version 1.10 installed on my desktop computer and it's working great.  I'm not going to upgrade it until I figure out why the newer versions aren't working.

Then I revoved the original greesemonkey gmail add on.

Just paying it forward.

I'm happy to donate to this program.

P.S.

I'll miss "Better GMail"...let me know when you resolve that conflict.

I am also having trouble.

it worked fairly well in Better GMail2 but then Better GMail2 dropped it saying it was a stand alone add-on now.  Hasn't worked since.

I have a gmail domain account.

There are literally 3 to 4 thousand people successfully using this add-on each day. If you are having trouble, please see the following:

Also try completely clearing your cache and restarting Firefox.

If you are using a right-to-left language in Gmail (such as Hebrew) please see the known bugs.

If your Gmail is set to a language other than English and you do not have any "send as" addresses set up, I may not have put in a fix for your language yet. When you have no other addresses set up, the add-on looks for a button with the word "Send" or its equivalent in another language. I have put in as many translations of "Send" as possible, but I may have missed your. Please send me the exact word for "Send" as it appears on the send button in your language so that I can include it in the latest version.

If this still does not help, please provide me with specific information beyond "it doesn't work" as follows:

  • What version of the add-on are you using?
  • What version of Firefox are you using?
  • What locale is your Firefox set to? (e.g. en-US, pt-BR, etc.)
  • Are you using regular Gmail or Google Apps?
  • Do you have any "send as" addresses set up?
  • What language is your Gmail account set to?
  • What other add-ons do you have installed and enabled?

Hi Jerome,

Thanks for your reply, apologies for not getting back sooner I've been away for the last week. For the record, it's really great plug-in that I'm really missing and I really appreciate the effort it takes to make these things work =)

My Firefox locale is set to en-gb, gmail is set to en-us, however, to get the new interface. I'm not using google apps for a domain.

Here are the links you ask for:

Googlepedia: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2517

Tempomail: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3883

Google Notebook: http://www.google.com/notebook/download

Hyperwords: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1941

Addon Version: 1.11.0.6

Firefox Version: 3.0.1

I think that covers all the things that you've asked for.

All the best,

Chris...

I'm currently in the same boat here. I think my issue has to do with the fact that I do have multiple 'Send as' accounts, but reading above I thought this bug only happened for those who do not have English set as their default langauge.

  • What version of the add-on are you using? 1.11.07
  • What version of Firefox are you using? 3.0.1
  • What locale is your Firefox set to? (e.g. en-US, pt-BR, etc.) en-US
  • Are you using regular Gmail or Google Apps? Gmail
  • Do you have any "send as" addresses set up? Yes, besides my main gmail account there are two other accounts I can send as.
  • What language is your Gmail account set to? English (US)
  • What other add-ons do you have installed and enabled? ColorZilla, Delicious Bookmarks, DevBoi, DOM Inspector, Duplicate Tab, FavLoc, Firebug, IE View Lite, JavaScript Debubgger, Linky, Live HTTP Headers, OperaView, SIRIUS Player, Tamper Data, Total Validator, Web Developer, Yellowpipe Lynx Viewer Tool, and Yslow.

Just a follow up. I tested this on my home computer using which has version 1.11.0.6 installed and Blank Canvas works. Did something change code-wise in the 6-7 release? Did something change in Gmail that makes it work now in the last few hours?

Besides that, here are the extensions I have installed:

All-In-One Gestures, Blank Canvas, Delecious Bookmarks, DOM Inspector, Download Statusbar, Duplicate Tab, Firebug, Firefox Accessiblity Extension, Greasemonkey, IE View Lite, Linky, NoScript, Open Link In..., Paste and Go 2 (currently disabled), Tamper Data, Web Developer, Yslow,

Hi All,

I just tried one last thing to see if I could diagnose the problem and turned off every single add-on apart from blank canvas. The result was that I got it working and discovered the culprit. Googlepedia (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2517).

It might be worth starting a thread that lists all known incompatible add-ons?

All the best,

Chris,

Thanks for the heads up. I will create a new page that lists conflicting add-ons.

Aug. 21, 2008 - 12:40pm

Good catch Chris!  The conflict was with Googlepedia.  I love that addon!

It is strange though that my desktop computer, which is running Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures 1.10, works just fine with Googlepedia 0.5.4, which is the latest version.

Was some sort of change made to Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures after version 1.10 that made it incompatible with Googlepedia?

For the record, I have the latest version of Better Gmail and it works great with Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures.  Why is it listed as an incompatible addon?

Aug. 21, 2008 - 2:37pm

Nothing has changed since v1.10 that would cause the conflict that I know of.

Better Gmail 2 is listed because of the "Dark" skin as described on the conflict page.
